RateAI is committed to ensuring our platform is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is not an afterthought — it is part of how we build.

1. Our Commitment

RateAI, Inc. is committed to making the RateAI website and platform accessible to all users, regardless of disability or the assistive technologies they use. We believe that access to AI safety information and certification services should not be limited by barriers in our digital interfaces.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website, and in doing so we adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

2. Standards

RateAI aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Our accessibility efforts are also informed by:

  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III
  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (for applicable government contexts)
  • The EU Web Accessibility Directive (where applicable)
  • ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) authoring practices

3. Measures Taken

To support accessibility, RateAI takes the following measures:

Design & Structure

  • Logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) throughout all pages
  • Sufficient color contrast ratios meeting WCAG AA standards
  • Text does not convey information through color alone
  • Responsive design that works across screen sizes and zoom levels up to 400%
  • Adequate target sizes for interactive elements

Navigation & Interaction

  • Full keyboard navigability — all interactive elements are reachable via keyboard
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Skip-to-main-content link available on all pages
  • Consistent navigation structure across pages
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second

Content & Media

  • All images include descriptive alt text; decorative images use empty alt attributes
  • Icons and badges are labeled for screen readers
  • Links have descriptive text that makes sense out of context
  • PDF reports are generated with tagged structure for screen reader compatibility
  • Language of the page is programmatically set

Forms & Errors

  • All form inputs have associated visible labels
  • Error messages clearly identify which field has an error and how to fix it
  • Required fields are identified before form submission
  • Sufficient time is provided for time-sensitive interactions, with options to extend

4. Conformance Status

The RateAI website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively addressing identified gaps and working toward full conformance.

Our most recent accessibility review was conducted in Q1 2025. We conduct reviews on a rolling basis whenever significant new features are released.

5. Known Limitations

We are aware of the following accessibility limitations and are working to address them:

  • Data visualization charts: Some evaluation score charts and pillar score visualizations may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. We are working to add accessible table alternatives for all chart data.
  • Third-party embeds: Certain third-party content (e.g., payment forms, authentication widgets) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We work with our vendors to encourage conformance.
  • PDF reports: Older evaluation reports may not include full tagging. Reports generated from March 2025 onwards include improved accessible structure.

If you encounter an issue not listed here, please let us know using the contact details below.

6. Assistive Technology

RateAI has been tested with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA (Windows) with Chrome and Firefox
  • JAWS (Windows) with Chrome
  • VoiceOver (macOS) with Safari
  • VoiceOver (iOS) with Safari
  • TalkBack (Android) with Chrome
  • Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse)
